TwitterHandy Grid jQuery Plugin
There are many frameworks/bookmarklets/links/blog posts/scripts to help you to design to a grid. One I have been using recently is a jQuery plugin called hashgrid.
After adding the script and setting up the CSS and creating the image of the grid you want (if you do not want to use the already useful one supplied – 980px with 20px gutter) you can hit various keys to bring it in various ways. This allows you to continually check that everything is lined up or to directly lay everything out if you are designing in the browser.
It is perhaps a bit more work to set up than a simple bookmarklet (and there are some really good ones) but once it is set up it is really nice to be able to have a grid at the press of a key and with the specific grid you want for that site always at hand. Once you are done delete the files to save space or leave it on there for other grid geeks to find and enjoy!
